Community Coalitions of Idaho and prevention practitioners, allied health partners and community members working to prevent substance misuse in Idaho.

 

WEBINAR DESCRIPTION and OBJECTIVES

This 90-minute webinar will review some tried and true general engagement strategies, as well some strategies and tips for both rural-specific engagement and bringing some of those hard-to-reach stakeholders and sectors to the table. The webinar includes the following learning objectives.

 

By the end of the webinar, participants will have:

  1. Reviewed on basic coalition engagement strategies.

  2. Explored effective rural- specific engagement strategies for communities and coalitions.

  3. Identified tips for engaging hard-to-reach sectors in the context of rural communities.
 

PRESENTERS

Shelley Evans is the founder and Executive Director of Community Health Initiatives, a prevention and treatment nonprofit serving rural and resort communities on the western slope of Colorado. She develops and oversees the implementation of projects and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the organization. Shelley has worked in the substance use prevention and treatment disciplines since 1979; starting as a paralegal in a family law court. She holds a Master’s degree, Prevention Specialist Certification, and is also a Certified Addictions Specialist, in Colorado. Her professional interests are centered around community-based prevention mobilization efforts and evidence-based resiliency and skills building curriculum delivery. Shelley lives with her husband in Basalt, Colorado and spends way too much time shoveling snow in the winter! She also plays golf poorly and possesses major gardening skills.

 

Ailala Kay (she/her), MA, is OMNI’s Director of Learning and Development and brings over 16 of experience in capacity building and engagement broadly focused on community health, substance use prevention, and behavioral health. Ms. Kay is adept at engaging urban and frontier communities as well as all levels of staff and community stakeholders in developing effective and energized collaborations with purposeful outcomes. She is a certified Substance Use Prevention Specialist (SAPST), Trainer, and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) facilitator. She is trained in Positive Youth Development (PYD), Effective Facilitator Strategies, Keys to Sustainability (CAPT), and Communities that Care.

 

Rebecca Larson (she/her), MS, ACC, is OMNI’s Senior TA and Training Manager and has been with OMNI since 2006 and serves in a senior leadership role on the Learning and Development team. She is an expert in rural community work and engagement, leadership development, community-based.
